‘Chivorchian knew two weeks ago that not changing their team colours would lead to penalties. While in Beijing I informed him that I talked to Blatter and that penalties were on their way. It is a clear decision. We can no longer do anything about it. FIFA ordered it, so Timisoara can be penalized, and we will execute that order,’ Mircea Sandu stated.
In reply, Marian Iancu, FC Timisoara’s owner, announced in a communiqué posted on the club’s official website that he will step down if the team receives a six-point penalty. Iancu launched a harsh attack against Mircea Sandu, stating that Sandu is allegedly behind Claudio Zambon.
‘It is impossible to fight a mafia system built and led by Mircea Sandu. We are too lonely in this fight, and when we resorted to the state’s institutions in order to set things straight, using clear and indubitable documents, the institutions did nothing but drag their feet. (...) I will leave football life, I will give everything up, after which we will truly clarify our relations with Mircea Sandu. The hundreds of thousands of fans and the local authorities are the only ones I could rely on and they are the ones that should continue to carry the banner,’ Marian Iancu states.
The trial through which Claudio Zambon, the owner of Politehnica Timisoara, has asked the current FC Timisoara to give up using Politehnica’s team colours, name and sports record, has dragged on for many years, ending up within the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Court has ruled that the club should change its name (which it deed, now being called FC Timisoara) and its purple jerseys. FIFA considers that this last demand has been ignored. Subsequently, FIFA has asked the Romanian Federation to issue a six-point penalty against FC Timisoara, with that being the minimal penalty provisioned within the international regulations. The penalties could go as far as complete erasure of the club.
After the team has been penalized by taking 6 points the fans made an unauthorized protest blocking the entrance in town , here are some pictures
